Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils. Roberto Luongo is a close second because of what he's doing in leading Vancouver to a potential division title, but Brodeur has taken the New Jersey Devils by the horns (sorry for the pun) and is leading that team to a division title out East. Brodeuer is at, or near, the top of the league in all four major goaltending categories (Wins, Shutouts, GAA, and Save %), while his best defenceman in front of him is Brian Rafalski. Now, for those who advocate for Dominik Hasek, look at what team he has in front of him. He plays with Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby, two of the best grinders and defensive forwards in the game, Niklas Lidstrom, who is a Norris Trophy candidate every year, Mathieu Schnieder and Chris Chelios who, despite their ages, are still two of the most dependable d-men in the league. Hasek clearly plays on a much more defensive team than Brodeur, which makes Brodeurs league-leading numbers much more remarkable than the next to league best numbers of Hasek. So, in conclusion, I think that Martin Brodeur is the best goaltender in the league this year.

It's Brodeur easily, and I am really surprised by the answers that say otherwise. Not that I wouldn't take Luongo, Kiprusoff, Vokoun, Miller or Hasek on my Kings, but let's get real here. All he has done is played nearly every game and taken an otherwise very average team to nearly the top of the league.
And in response to one of the answers upstairs: yes he has some good defensive players in front of him, but the team defense is far from what it was in the days of Nidermeyer and Stevens.

I'd love to say Freddy Norrena, but if that were true, the Blue Jackets would have won more than they did. Still, he's a lot better than anyone we've had... he saved all 3 shots in the shootout to win the other night! I really don't know... I only follow the teams I root for... and the ones that get put on television so I can watch them on Versus.
and I don't see any reason I should get thumbs down votes... I said I don't know... it's not like I named the worst goalie in the league (well seriously anyway... clearly the thing about Norrena was a joke)

Martin Brodeur is not the best goalie. Don't get me wrong he is a very talented goalie, but he is not the best. The only reason he has 39 wins, .926 save%, 2.08 gaa, and 12 shutouts is because of excellent defense. The Devils have one of the greatest defenses in the league, and they are the best at playing the trap. There is a reason why they have scored only 175 goals on the season. There forwards are dedicated to being defensive.

How can you possibly say Fleury isn't good?
look at his save percentage. hes 7th in the league. ser. god. you have to be so stupid to say something like that.
While i think fleury is awesome, martin brodeur is the man.
no doubt.
and the person who said they are a pens fan but agrees with fleury being horrible...umm go tell that to a group of pens fans...you won't get out alive.
dont say stupid things like that.

Brodeur is the best. I agree that Fleury is horrible also. Don't get me wrong, I am a Penguins fan and I live in Pittsburgh, but I hate his style of game play and he is shaky all the time. The Pens won't advance far into the playoffs with him in the net.

Martin Brodeur hands down.. a bit over rated if you ask me, for tdbvodka who said Fluery is "talentless" was probably kidnapped by a french canadian with a similar accent, and has a hatred for future greats.
