So, I realize it's a TV show and it's there to make money for the producers and there's nothing wrong with that and I think that most families on the show are probably helped by the new house. But I'm concerned about certain destitutes families. It costs a LOT to heat a 3000 sq. ft. home and the electric bill for 7 tvs and 10 computers has to be astronomical.

I know that the taxes are supposedly covered by some loophole in the tax code... but how do families pay for the extra utilities?

Additionally, some of the families live in bad/dangerous areas. It seems kind of dangerous to put all of these expensive electronics in a house in a bad neighorhood, no?

Does anyone know of anyone who was actually inconvenienced/harmed in the long run by the show?

I guess there are always bad things with the good, though... opinions?

I completely agree! It seems with each new episode, the house is larger and even more grand! I think it is a really great thing they're doing, but it doesn't really make sense. The families usually are quite low on money, which factors into why they get a house built for them, and I don't see how they could keep up with the bills for very long.

I have seen a few times where the builders/contractors have paid or given them a check to cover the cost of utilites/heating for the first year, but after that period of time, what will they do?

Another thing (that my mom worries about) is all the time it will take to clean the house. Think how much longer it would take to vacuum or dust, compared to an old smaller house.

I haven't actually heard of a situation where the family was inconvenienced afterwards, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one.

I think that the first years of the shows used the space more practically. And sometimes, simple is better.

well a lot of the time on the show, they take away the house payments. so if people dont have a house payment every month, then they will have a little extra money left and can use it for those electronics
