I bought this book for my grandparents, and it turned out to be a great book for people at any age. I remember that it was by someone fairly famous but not likely to write such a book. I thought the author was Bruno Bettelheim, or Dr. Spock, or even Dr. Seuss. The book was short, easily readable, straight-forward.

Dr. Seuss has a book called You're Only Old Once. Maybe that's the one you're thinking of. Check out the reviews on amazon.com

I think Bill Cosby has one, too. Time Flies might be the author. Maybe Erma Bombeck, too. There's the poem When I am an Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple (or something like that) that inspired the Red Hat Societies.
