Hello everyone,
Yesterday I had a 1 hour softball clinic and forgot to strech... Anyway when I woke up this morning I couldn't get up becasue my back hurt... It hurt from the back of my shoulder to my bottom of my neck... I think I might have strained my muscle but am not sure... It hurts when I try to raise it and do other mosions... It also hurts bad when I try to touch it. This morning when I took a shower I also noticed it was all red... What could it be... If I do have a muscle strain or anything else what can the doctor do about it?

There are a number of things you can try.
First let me say that you are sore because you have inflammation and with that comes redness. To reduce inflammation and thus pain, ice the area for 20 minutes at a time 3-4 times a day. You can alternate with heat in between time, but it is critical to ice in the first days of the injury. You may take ibuprofen or aleve or aspirin (any of these anti-inflammatory meds will work) as often as the bottle prescribes. I myself have taken up to 800 milligrams when the recommended dosage is 400. It just depends on you.
On Monday, try calling your doctor. Often they have a nurse triage that you can talk to on the phone. They may prescribe muscle relaxers over the phone. Lastly, if you are not put off by it, I would get in to see a chiropractor. I swear by them when you are in that much pain. You can feel better after just one visit and be on your way after a few visits. But it is personal preference.
Lastly, when my b/f gets in this predicament, he loves the product called ICYHOT. It is an analgesic (aspirin creme). He loves it when I massage his back with it.

Are you putting the bar over the bump behind your back (your spine)? If so, stop doing that. You are supposed to put the bar over your trapezius muscle which has a "shelf" when you arch your shoulders back such as in a squat. This "shelf" is a little lower than your neck bump. Also don't use those pads they can be dangerous if the bar slips. i don't exactly know what you are doing wrong but your neck should not be feeling any pain at all. Unless it is your upper back that is feeling pain then perhaps you should just get used to the pain. Email me for more details.

You need to rest . the doctor will give you pain killers and muscle relaxers. If it is bone or nerve damage you need to see a neurologist..
