I had a meeting with my boss and he called me a slacker which I felt was a slap in the face. I have been working there for six years and it seems like all the new employees are the ones that are slacking by standing around and talking all day and thus he has lowered my hours to one or two days a week. What should I do?

Right off the bat, you haven't given enough information to figure out where the boss is coming from, so I'm making a gut reaction. My reaction is that he's probably playing a headgame to either motivate you to work harder or is trying to lower his labour costs by giving more hours to new hires. If you've been there 6 years, you must know what you're doing. It also means you're making more than the newbies. He wants to save some money so he cuts some of your hours and gives them to the newbies who are cheaper. He tells you it's because you're underperforming. He's probably lying.

Time to check out new employment opportunities. Keep in mind, the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence so think hard before changing jobs.

This sounds like my job LOL. Either you quit and go work someplace else. Or do what I do and ignore your boss. Cause you know hes an asshole. Were I work they took our yearly raise off of us if we were there for over five years. Meanwhile all the new employees get one. No Im not joking. And they are cutting our hours back as well. It is pretty simpe bosses simply do not give a crap about there workers cause they figure if they can hire they can fire. They get athority and all of a sudden become morons.

Sounds like he is trying to "manage you out" so he doesn't have to pay unemployment.

Just because you work hard doesn't mean that you have been an angel. He's probably focusing on one thing, that is driving him nuts.

In any case, I agree with the other posters. Go look for a new company. If the boss was interested in keeping you, he would have had a serious conversation with you regarding what you can do to impress him. He didn't.

Find a new job. Your boss is most likely looking to replace you with someone who will do the same job for less pay. If you've gotten any sort of raise, they may want to take you out in order to cut costs. It happens a lot more often than people might think.

Get another job quick, it's easy while you're still employed because he will give you a ref to get rid of you. Even if you are good no boss ever appreciates it unless he respects you (which is v. rare) they tend to think everyone under them is a sucker.

Let me give you some words of wisdom that you shall carry for the rest of your life: most bosses are asswipes. If yours is, then get a new job.
