Many states, cities are named after a person in the first place. I don't have a big problem as long as it sounds ok. Jackson, Austin, Madison, etc are fine. But if you name your kid Portland, or Connecticut, then it's weird. But hey, it's their kid, they can name them whatever they want.

It all depends on the name of the state, country or city. Some of them would be fine like Austin, Clayton, Clinton, Georgia
My great great grandma's name was Easter Tennessee, so go figure! Her daughter married a man with last name of Christmas.

I think it's okay, as long as it stays appropriate. For instance, if you name your kid Alaska or Tennessee, that's a little over the top. Imagine how teased they would be! But, if you name your child something a little more common, such as Dallas, India, Phoenix, Georgia, or Virginia, then it's a little more acceptable. All in all, I think that naming your child after a city, state, or country is acceptable as long as you don't do something so out of the ordinary or kooky that it is just plain weird.

Maybe for a kid it might be cute. But what happens when you're 30 applying for an important job and resume reads Detroit Jones or Mongolia Smith. Not so cute then.

Name your child Infantino. It's a small town in Germany where you can go and just forget the modern work day. Ahhh........ Infantino....... Breathe it in. See that name says "Parent of the Year" all over it. Like some sort of vaseline covered hedhog.

Depends on the name. I mean, people name their kids after jewels, colours, flowers, plants, animals, fruit. Anything goes, so why not places?? Besides, aren't many places named after people to begin with?

I love meeting people who have these kind of names; the only one that I have come in the prescence of that I hate is Paris, I love Paris (the place) but Paris Hilton turned me off that name unless its spelled Parys.
I like Londom spelled either way: London or Londyn.
I like Austin: (goes cute with Tyler Tremir (then Austin)

There kid will have a good chance of being teased about it depending on the name. Like Austin, Jackson, Dallas are fine but don't go too far peoples.

depends on the state they are naming it after. some are nice like Georgia, Atlanta, Phoenix and Dallas, but if someone was to name their kid like Chicago it would be a bit stupid
