If so, are they frequent and are they intense?

Frequent? I don't think they are frequent. Intense... all rain in Texas is intense. Reminder that bad weather normally results in the cold mass meeting the warm mass and boom. So, since we have really hot weather, we get brutal thunderboomers with hail and yes, sometimes thunderstorms.

I've lived in the New Braunfels area for the majority of my lifetime, and never have I seen or heard of a tornado around here.

Not really. There have been some a little north of here, but they usually don't come this way. Not to say that they never are in the Austin area. I would say we have 2 or 3 or even less a year.

yes there are, havent seen a bad one since around 1996
im sure there are smaller ones, in austin never seen one here
they seem to hit more north of austin and NB

No no, not serious ones. And yeah, just north. Closer to Oklahoma. Very rare, don't worry.
