My personal favorite "classic" board game is Risk. It requires strategy as well as luck of the dice to win.

A second favorite of mine is a game from the early 90's called Scrutineyes. It is sort of like the I Spy books where you have to find as many things that begin with a certain letter in a collage of items. Players then compare what they found and cross-off like answers. Very fun game.

Hero Quest is the best game ever. Its like dungeons and dragons only with a board...lots of furniture and figures. It was made by Milton Bradley in the 90's I belive.

Scrabble, you need both word and math skills, and it is far more strategic than most realize.
