90% of all lightning is between one part of the cloud and another or between cloud cells. Only 10% is between the ground and the cloud.

All lightning (apart from the rare chain and ball lightning) is forked. Sheet lightning is the light from a lightning strike on the other side of the cloud or in the cloud. It is not a special type of lightning, you don't see the strike but you see the light from it.

No, there are many types of lightning which never hit the ground or anywhere near the ground. Cloud to sky, Intercloud (from one cloud to another), and Intracloud (also known as heat lightning) never reach the ground or close to it. In most cases when lightning does get close to the ground it usually strike towers, lightning rods, and trees. If lightning is about to strike the ground where you are you will know it because your hairs will stand up.

No..! As a matter of fact, most lightning in any given thunderstorm occurs between different parts of the thundercloud and never hits Earth at all.

of course the ground that's why we have crack's on the ground.
