I know it isn't a spider (only 6 legs), but it looks like one. Including the legs it is a little smaller then a nickle. It runs pretty fast! It is either a dark brown, or black. The white markings run the length of the legs. I've found it on my living room floor and (ugh!) in/on my bed.

The only thing i can think of is a spider beetle, most likely (Mezium affine). these are commonly found in houses as they are usually stored product pests.

Here is an image of (Mezium affine), I also included a page that has spider-like beetles on it, maybe this will help you get a positive identification.

two possibilities spring to mind - the fast running makes it seem unlikely to be a beetle - it might be an ant, but it might be worth looking up ant-mimic spiders or "ant spiders" on the web. If these things are common, probably ants; if uncommon, maybe the (harmless) spider or some kind of insect (maybe a bug of some sort?). Ant-mimic spiders will hold their first pair of legs up like antennae, and move remarkably like ants (short zig-zag dashes, for example).
