you dont say how much training your horse has had, or how much experience you yourself has had. there are many types of bits other than snaffles and hi-port curbs. a bit with a high port could easily hurt you horses mouth in a sport such as barrels. the bit you need depends on your horse, his training level, his personality, and your level of expertise. a snaffle usually does not give you the control you need. however, if he tried to rear and buck, you need to go back to basics before you even start training him for barrels. it is esy to turn a nice horse into a maniac if you skip basics and try to rush his training, esecially if you get him running too much. i was for many years a professional trainer. feel free to contact me for more info if you would like. good luck

well when I showed in Games I used a simple Toms Thumb bit with the copper rollers. It's not a nasty bit along with a regular tie down. How controlled is your horse? If he has issues with the turns just walk him/her threw it instead of running it. A lot of Barrel classes will teach you that. Or use the bit you have now but don't use if unless you have too. Use leg and neck comands not head an mouth! Keep me updated!

I would use a bit less bridle for barrel racing, so theres more of a pull o nthe nose band,, when i barrel race i use that.. but im only 13.. all m yinstructers tell me to use one too..
