I've noticed some people with a lot of points who answer a lot of questions, have yet to ask one of their own. Why might they do that? I would think that they would want to be intellectually curious on topics that interest them.

1) You get points if you answer, but you loss points when you ask a question.

2) The answerers can express their opinions, experiences and let the answerers feel they are helping the person who asked the question.

3) Some people may think only the person who has problems or troubles will ask questions for help and the smarter ones can answer questions.

4) Smart people ask smart questions. It is not easy to post a smart question and get people interested in.

Personally, I have found that the questions I want to ask are less important than those which appear on this forum, and as a Wiccan, my brief is to help when asked. There is also the probability that the questions I might want answered are inappropriate for this forum. At age seventy, there's a lot I can give, and not a great deal I want to know about this silly world at this difficult time, just through the cusp of the Aquarian Age!

Cap3382, an EXCELLENT question..

I have answered 242 questions and been lucky to have 32 accepted as best answers.

I have only asked 1 question but am constantly curious and simply research, using Google's newest search engine SEARCHMASH.COM a wonderful new device recently offered us.

I also use refdesk.com/archives, copernic.com and for newspapers around the world (so as to get other views than local) I use www.newsd.com so that I can read the daily paper in Dublin or Brisbane or Calcutta to get their views on world events.

The questions I often have are on health matters and I log in to the nejm.com (New England Journal of Medicine) or www.thelancet.com which is Britain's leading health site.

I am a real movie buff and have dozens of questions about movies and movie stars so I go to www.imdb.com and get the opinions of hundreds of folks who have seen the movie and want to give their opinions about it.

For famous people I log intto www.biography.com and get a full story of their lives.

As for computer questions, I really enjoy reading the answers given by professionals on ANSWERS. They are very helpful guys and I've learned a lot from them

I think students ask most of the questions. Seniors like myself seem to be able to get their info from many sources.

Hi Cap3382!

I think some people may just be trying to accumulate points ... Asking costs 5 points.

And, if note for that reason, some really bright people may be very resourceful and prefer to research their interests first-hand.

Also (and, just my two-cents, here), some people may not place much faith in the respondents' answers.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks! (You answered my question about books on existential psychology, and I found your responses helpful.)

Now, the reason I posted that question here is because if I happened to encounter someone well-versed in the field, then I might gain better insight into WHICH books to choose. (For example, I've been researching May's books on Amazon, but there are so many, and I'm not certain as to which ones would be appropriate for someone starting to get acquainted with the material.)

I always wondered that myself.... I know I wouldn't be able to go without asking a question, because I ask a lot of questions outside of this yahoo answer thing. But I think a lot of people like to give their own opinions about things, that's why they answer a lot of questions. But why the never ask a question, I have no clue, maybe they think they know everything there is to know.

I can only answer for myself. I don't have very many questions that I can not get answers to by simply doing some research. So, I don't feel the need to post questions. However, I do find enjoyment in answering other peoples questions. Have a great day and God bless****

I have only asked 2 questions so far, answered lots more. The reason is I want any questions I ask, to be meaningful, so I take my time thinking them up. It is a lot easier to answer questions in front of you than to ask.

I concur with some of the others who have posted their answers to your question. I have never asked a question on this forum because any question I have can be researched online. I choose to answer questions that others have because I can help by sharing basic research and by sharing relevant personal experiences. It is not a matter of intellectual curiosity, but rather a matter of choosing to research matters of interest myself.

I'm one of those people. I started out in this site by asking a question myself. Nobody ever answered my first question so i never bothered to ask any more. I've been too busy answering every body else's questions.

well, most of the questions i ask don't get any answers so it is kind of pointless. i am basically an answerer. it makes perfect sense to me. some are the gurus, some are the questioners. the answerers tend to be older with more experience from what i've seen. we're trying to help. i have asked my real questions with no luck. i am at a different place than most of the ya users. right now my real questions have to do with the assymetrical tendencies in my shoulder girdle, strange patchy red stuff on my face and machine stenography motivation. those kinds of questions don't get much help from ya, so i don't usually ask.
