Hi everyone, I am 2 weeks from my due date and like many of you miserable and ready to get this pregnancy over with. I have 2 teenagers but of course the pregnancies were completely different from this one. Anyway, I went to the doc the other day and they said i was 1 cm dilated. i know that you can be dilated for weeks and even a month or so before actual active labor but they also said my cervix was still very thick and hard which was discouraging. I started dilating a month before active labor with my son but the cervix was thinning also. I am a little concerned with this one because she has engaged they say and her head is right at my cervix, in fact, when she moves it is very painful, but i am making no progress. i know i still have 2 weeks but as the countdown begins i guess i am looking for things to freak me out. The question is has anyone ever experienced or heard of women going into labor yet their cervix has not thinned out? Do you think this could be an indication

Don't worry my sister in law didn't start have any changes in her effacement until she was 3 cm. She was able to have an uncomplicated vag delivery. You may need to relax a drink more water so you body can do what it is trying to do. The babies head should be helping effacement but if your body is too tired or dehydrated it can't progress. So take a nice warm bath with a glass of water and read a good book. It will be over soon.

My friend was the same way before she had her baby in Feb. The last couple of weeks were the worst for her. She was told by her OB that the baby was in position and she was dialated 1-2 cm, but she never went into labor on her own because her cervix wasn't thinned yet...she was induced on her due date. Good luck, and just try to be patient.

With my first I wasn't very effaced and wasn't dilated at all (maybe a fingertip) when I was 38.5 wks, and my son was born 3 days later. I know that this isn't your first child, but since your kids are so much older your body isn't going to remember what to do as well. I really don't think you have anything to worry about, I know it's so easy to start freaking out at this point since the whole process is kind of scary. But I'm sure your body will do what it's supposed to do, and that baby will come on it's own.

If your doctor is worried about it there are different things that they can do to help in the effacement process. My cousin had some kind of insert that was like a monistat ovul thingy that she had to put in that was supposed to help in the effacing but it didn't work either. And they also had an injection that they did at the hospital when she was in labor... they had to wind up doing an emergency c section because it had been too long since her water broke... but if it was really a concern.. the doctor probably would have discussed your options with you on it already. Good Luck!

My doctor did say that every woman is different. Some dilate before labor, others dilate totally after labor has begun. I wouldn't worry. Many women I've talked to didn't even realize that some of us dilate and efface before labor. So there are many who like you are not effaced first.

I wish you the best.

I guess anything is possible and if that is so then you will have to get a c-section. Don't worry stop stressing its not a good thing. Doctors have creams that they will apply on your cervix to make them began to soften up; if they feel this is a factor. Just relax and be patient. Good Luck!

I was half a centimeter for the last 5 of my 41 week long pregnancy. I was induced at 41 weeks but its common and every thing went just fine. It was also very painful for me when my son would move.
