im a first time mom to be, im 17 and im 34 weeks pregnant. i am having... what you could call pains every once in a while. it almost feels like a really bad stomach ache, but goes away after a few minutes and then comes back about 10 minutes later. it does this 2 or 3 times a day. my baby has dropped, could these be braxton hicks or should i be worried?i plan on talking to my dr about it anyway at my next appt. i just wanted some input from people who know about it a little bit. also, does this indicate at all if i will have my baby soon?

Well there is a sure way to determine which is which...Braxton hicks are not that strong and don't last very long...real contractions will almost take your breathe away and last a little longer.
Best thing to do is try to time how many you are having in a half hour, if you have more then 4 then you should opt to give your doctors office a call and see what they say. I would assume it is labor, but I am not there to know for sure and your doctor would really know best what position you are in as far as your pregnancy.

I never had braxton-hicks with either pregnancy, but what you're describing sounds like what I've read about them. If the contractions go away with position change, or if they're really irregular, then it's probably just your body practicing. Talk to the dr about it when you go, but I think you're ok. If you start getting them regularly and they don't go away, then call the on-call line.

Definitely sounds like BH's. They are more commonly felt in front as a tightening of the uterus. Can become quite uncomfortable but usually not too painful. Real labor contractions become longer stronger and closer together over time and are felt more in your back (like period cramps that get stronger) and radiate around to the front.

when actual labor starts you feel it in your back more than your stomach...and boy is it painful...braxton hicks are mostly in your stomach and you can feel like quite often through the day and night...it could indicate on comming labor, or it could be just your body getting ready...but 99% of the time you can not miss the true signs of labor.
