At first Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman were brought together to be the Ant and Dec (Pop Idol UK hosts) for the American version of Pop Idol.
The public never took to Brian Dunkleman. He was unpopular, whilst Ryan Seacrest got on well with the judges, especially Simon.
It was decided that one host was enough for the American version and Brian Dunkleman wasn't signed to a contract for the next year.

I saw an interview with Brian Dunkleman and he said he left the show because of how cruel they were to the contestants. He said he felt like a talking monkey.
