the Cyclopes were almost like human beings but of a gigantic size and with only one eye in the middle of their heads. Essentially there were three of them: Brontes (thunderer), Steropes (Lightener), and Arges (Bright).
Origin
They were born to Gaea and Uranus.
Role
The Cyclopes were the first smiths. Volcanos were believed to be the aftermath of their underground work.
Story
When Cronus came to power he imprisoned the Cyclopes in Tartarus. They were released by Zeus and fought with him against the Titans. As a reward for their release the Cyclopes gave Zeus his weapons of lighting and thunder. They continued as his workers at Mount Olympus forging his thunderbolts.
Polyphemus, (son of Poseidon), is the most popular cyclops. He fighted with Odysseus that came out victorious, and left Polyphemus, blinded.
Hermes killed Arges while he guarded Io for Hera. Apollo also killed at least one of the Cyclopes to retribution for Zeus killing his son Aesculapius.

The cycolpes were the were the one-eyed monsters of Greek mythology. They supposedly fashioned weapons and other items of the gods, including Zeus's lightning bolts. These cyclopes were considered some sort of smiths I suppose. Also, in Homer's Odyssey, Polyphemus is a sheep herder whom Odysseus and his men must escape from. This particular cyclops eats humans, but the sailors get him drunk enough to escape. The origins of the myth may have came from dwarf elephant skulls found on Crete and Sicily. The skulls were roughly twice the size of human heads, and the large central cavity for the trunk was interpreted to be an eye socket. Thus was born the legend of these one-eyed giants! It's really quite fascinating how ancient cultures interpreted their findings and created legends!

Hello. In my knowledge a cyclops other than the eye thing was like a very large human. They were considered to be, in my opinion, fat, tall, and very strong. But in mythology they only served some master or guarded some treasure.

the cyclops never actually existed. it was a mistake when excavating by the people back then. they had thought that they've found a very large human skull, but it was actually an elephant skull. if u take a look at the skull of an elephant, there's a huge hole where it's brain should be (eye socket for the cyclops).

THE cyclops, the one that captured and ate several of Odessyus' men, was a cave-dwelling shepherd giant. With humans, he was an absolute brute, eating them at will, yet holding conversations with their leader. He liked Odessyus' courage, so promised him the favor of "eating him last".
At the same time, Cyclops was extremely gentle with his sheep. He spoke lovingly to them! Strange, huh? He also couldn't hold his liquor: human wine put him down for the count!
