That's a pretty big generalisation. Don't judge everyone for the stupidity of the few who didn't pay attention in Sex Ed.

Well I think the problem starts in school. The government will not pay for or sponsor sex education that teaches things like birth control, STD symptoms, etc. The government only accepts Abstinence as a way to educate kids about sex. But come on.

We all know that as kids we wanna do what the adults tell us not too. Hence the rising rate of teen pregnancies and STDs in teens. And we have those church functions for virginity pledges and stuff, which makes the issue worse, in my opinion. Your not protecting your daughter from having sex, your putting more mystery into it and why its so bad.

Kids don't buy condoms or go to the doctor for BC because they are too embarrassed. That and if they do, then they are planning on having sex and that's bad. So they "accidentally" have sex but since its without protection, it wasn't planned so its okay. Not to mention that the Abstinence education programs have left teens stupid about sex. They think it takes more than once to get pregnant, if it looks clean it must be, and that it could never happen to them. Etc, etc. Oh yeah and the infamous "pull out" method is used quit frequently as a form of BC, which we all know doesn't work all the time.

Abstinence is great and all but I think our sex ed programs should be about educating about sex, not just preventing it because we all know it doesn't.

Because first of all they are too young to be having sex! Second, teenagers don't necessarily think with their heads. They get caught up in the emotion side of the sex and forget the smarts!!

It is very sad that even with all the knowledge and resources out there, that teenagers still do it without protection. I don't know what else parents/doctors/teachers can tell them and actually have them believe them. It won't sink into a teenagers head until they actually have something (pregnancy or std) happen to them.
Maybe if the adults in their lives were more approachable and less aggressive.....????

Well in most states you have to be 18 to get BC, it is something you get at the counter and something you need a doctors prescription for not to mention without insurance it cost a lot of money and teens do not want there parents knowing they are having sex.

When it comes to not using condoms it is usually done because for some dumb reason they think without a condom it feels better which is totally untrue and they have it in there head they are not going to get an STD or pregnant

With a larger percentage than most think it's lack of education mixed with a lack of parental guidance. If more teens were informed and had parents who actually were active in their child's life there would be less underage pregnancies. That does not mean that some idiots will do it anyways due to either pressure from the opposite sex to preform or those who still lack the understanding for the implications of parenthood and some std's that kill.

"How come many teens wont use protection when having sexual intercourse?" Because they prefer to believe their peers rather than the education they are given when it comes to pregnancy and STDS/HIV/HPV.
And we ALL know "you can't get pregnant the first time you have sex" , "you can't get pregnant unless you have an orgasm", "You can't get pregnant if he pulls out". (I'm being SARCASTIC...of course I know none of that is true)

"Well in most states you have to be 18 to get BC" That's a bunch of bullshit. ANYONE ANY AGE can purchase condoms, ANYONE ANY AGE can purchase spermacide. Planned Parenthood administers Birth Control Pills to girls who are 16, and THAT falls under the "parental consent/notification" act...Depending on what state you live in the parents don't HAVE to give consent and in some states parents do NOT have to be notifed. In California there is NO notification required, NO concent needed. The morning after pill however does require a valid ID showing age 18 or over (go figure..)

ok, i hate all these pple who give answers like "they dont care". ok, im 14 and ill tell u why we dont use protection, ok, think about its not really practical, nobody wants to interupt the first time they get laid by haveing to go put on a condom, that is if they happen to have one with them cuz really, u may bring it in ur pants pocket but when the time comes, ur pants might be on the other side of the room. and like i said usually with teen its the first time there being laid so they dont wanna screw it up. and the other reason would be, that teens usually have sex when there drunk or high, and when ur drunk u dont think about using a condom. and last as too "they sell them at clinics ect." ya, they do, but really, thats kinda emmbarrasing. i mean at least you could hand them out in school's sex-ed class or sumtin u know.... well hope that answers ur question (ps im a guy if u care)

1. they dont think anything bad can happen to them
2. some of them are actually stupid and want to get pregnant
3. many of them arnt well informed about STD's.

4.*many teens do use protection and still end up pregnant. no form of birth control is 100% effective. I used protection every single time i had sex and ended up pregnant at 16.

Maybe they are just too afraid to ask someone else for it or their parents for it. Plus, teens are the type that don't think of stuff before they actually do it. Especially in situations like these.
