It depends on the severity and the cause. If they are getting diaper rash because of diarrhea, for example, it's harder to heal because it will continue to be irritated by the diarrhea. My son got horrible diaper rash last time he was sick, and these are some of the things the nurses and doctors recommended to me:
-Don't use baby wipes for awhile. Even the unscented, sensitive skin ones can irritate diaper rash even more. Use a damp washcloth instead. (I went through lots and lots of washclothes.)
-Put some baking soda in the bath with him. A couple of tablespoons(if they are in the big bath, less in a baby bath) and let him soak. Use lukewarm water, too warm will make it worse. Let him stay in for about 5 minutes or so. You can do this twice a day if you'd like.
-The best thing, I found, was to use Lotrimin and Vaseline. The nurse recommended this to me and I was amazed how well and quickly it worked. The lotrimin is sold in the drug store - it's sold as a foot infection cream. Put a thin layer of this on the irritated area, and then cover that with LOADS of Vaseline. At diaper changes, if they are just wet, you don't have to wipe it off - the Vaseline acts as a barrier to the moisture.
-Change diapers all the time, and cut back on any juices they are drinking till it heals.
I'm a big Desitin fan, but I find that the Lotrimin and Vaseline help a bad case heal better, and that Desitin helps prevent it better. Hope this helps!
Good luck! It's so sad when their little bum hurts :(

Not very long if you get a good ointment on it. Wash with a warm washcloth when changing diaper and be sure area is dry. Apply ointment and then put diaper on. If baby has a rash - be sure to change diaper more often than normal so baby isn't sitting in a soiled diaper for too long.

Ointments I really felt worked was A-D ointment, Desitin, and a German ointment called Penaten!! Penaten Creme works the BEST but is harder to find in some areas and I'm not sure where you reside. It can be used for all sorts of things, right down to putting it in your eyes for sties. AWESOME stuff but if you can't locate it - stick with the other mentioned creams and again, change diaper more frequently until rash has subsided.

It depends on how bad the rash is and how often you treat it. If you put medicine on the baby's bottom with every diaper change, then it shouldn't last more that a couple of days. I like pinxave for a diaper rash, it works very well.

Try some Lotrimin (yes, the athlete's foot gunk). They can say it isn't yeast all they want, but a rash that hasn't healed in a month? That's certainly something to consider. Try the Lotrimin and keep up with the frequent airings and see if it helps. Sunlight does help fungal infections, no harm in letting him sit outdoors naked for a while, just watch the sun.

It depends on how bad it is and how often you let it air out. If you use some Desitine or something else it will take less time and be more comfortable for the baby. Some take a week or more, but if its really bad it could take longer.
Let him/her, air dry, make sure you have a towel under them that cold air will make them....well you know.
Good luck

A regular one should only take a day or night. I have tried all creams out there (got one of each at a shower) and I like Balmex the best. It seemed to work the quickest.
