I have just returned from a one night stay at the Blakemore Hotel in Bayswater where someone let themselves into my room (no forced entry), slashed open my locked suitcase and stole some of my stuff. The police are involved. I cannot prove anything but I suspect an inside job. Staff were totally unhelful and kept holding back from laughing in my face. Has anyone experienced anything like this? The stuff was not very valuable and the Police said it is not worth claiming on insurance, but I am outraged and very upset and I do not think I will get any justice. No compensation was allowed either and I had to pay the full price for the night.

By "inside job" I mean the staff themselves. They have easy access to the rooms. They even opened the window before the police arrived and tried to make it look like someone climed up the pole outside to the 2nd floor to do this but there is no forced entry.

I've stayed in many hotels but never had anything stolen.

I would presume most hotel robberys are inside jobs. You should claim it on the insurance anyway and make sure the highest people in the hotel know about it. The people you reported it to may even be involved or know who it was so they wont help you. Speak to the manager and if they dont help find out who the owner is and speak to them. You need to make it clear to them that you want something done about this. Put up a big enough fuss and they will do something, compensate you and/or screen their staff and hopefully it will make them rectify the problem so they dont have to deal with guests complaining to the level that you should do.

Also leave a review on every online hotel review site you can, the staff wont care less about this but tell the managers and owners that you will be forced to warn people if they dont help you.

They have treated you badly through this so go for it in everyway you can.

Yes twice, once in Mexico and once in Sri Lanka. Small amounts of money. (Obviously staff). I did`nt report it, just learned to be more careful. It must be very annoying for you that the management and police did`nt want to know. The police in the UK are`nt interested in solving small crimes anymore. Catching motorists speeding is much easier.

Most of the thefts in any hotel will be an insider job. One must always report to the management.

I have in Tunisia...

Cd player and a bunch of Cds... (10+)

And i'm like 99% sure it was the staff.

So we moved Hotels.. And they didn't do anything either. Refused to believe it was their staff... Ugh..

Next time use the safety deposite box at the front desk. Most hotels have them. Consider yourself lucky they didn't get your passport which is hard to replace if lost or stolen.
