Can I feed my 6 month old cold infant formula? She doesn't like the bottle very much but she doesn't mind the formula cold. I am trying to wean her off breastmilk and I am willing to try anything. She doesn't take it completely, she plays with it, spits it out, I think only 40% goes into her throat.

I would mix the formula with hot water, let it cool and put it in the fridge. When I want to give it to her I give it to her cold. I wasn't sure if the temperature will do her harm. I will probably ask my pediatrician next time I see him. Thanks.

I think she likes it cold. She takes it more cold than warm. It's hard to wean her I have been trying since she was 3 months and she has only taken the bottle possibly 4-5 times.

Question: Does baby formula have to be warmed up?

Answer: No. Warming baby formula is something we do out of habit rather than for any medical or safety reason. Warming a bottle can be a real hassle, especially if you're traveling. Instead, take away the chill by holding the bottle of formula in your hands for a few minutes. Chances are your baby will never notice the difference.

If it is cold from the fridge it should be fine but you should mix formula from warm to luke warm water so you don't get clumps, those can be bad for baby. Also, I wouldn't worry about how much she is getting, she may be playing with the bottle nipple because it is different than yours and she is trying to figure it out. Your baby will eat when she is hungry and she will let you know when she is hungry so unless you feed her and she refuses to eat and still acts hungry don't worry about how much she is getting. Just offer less formula at a time so you don't waste a lot, it could get expensive. Good luck.

I agree with the other answers that the formula doesn't dissolve well in cold water. You could make up a batch of it, enough to last for the day, and keep it in the fridge. No reason why you can't feed her cold formula...she's going to be drinking cold milk when you transition her over right?

If she doesn't mind the cold formula go for it. I gave my daughter cold formula from the get go and she loved it. I always thought warm formula would taste gross. Mu Pediatrician told me that it is a preference thing. If the baby likes it cold--no problem. Powder doesn't dissolve as well in cold water though.

If she likes it cold I would go ahead and make the bottles with the hot water and put them in the fridge and feed her from there. I dont believe the formula will dissolve correctly if the water isnt atleast warm...

there is nothing wrong with feeding your baby cold formula...better that she get it than not at all don't you think.
My daughter (who is now 6 1/2) drank cold or cool formula from a bottle from the time she was 3 months old...she then went on to cold toddler formula and now loves cold milk!

It is easier on her digestive system at room temperature. Also, she may just enjoy it more. She's probably thinking "hey! what's going on? where's the good stuff? (breast milk)" try, if not too late already, going 3/4 breast milk to 1/4 formula, then increase the formula a bit every few days, which will decrease the breast milk in the combination. Before you know it, you'll have a baby who can't wait for the formula! (and you'll be on to bigger and more challenging questions - as we all are!!!) Good luck! - Ashley

The powdered formula might not fully disolve in cold water, you might want to try luke warm water with it. I don't think that there is anything wrong with cold formula as long as it is fresh. Have you tried mixing your breast milk with the formula and see if she likes that?
Good luck

cold really isn't so great for them have you tried room temp? I use to put water in bottles and leave them on the counter till I needed them then added the formula and handed it over. If not just make sure it isn't super cold.

Hey, if she likes it cold, go for it! I have a friend who is STILL warming her kids milka at the ages of 5 and 7 years old. Kids can get addicted to warmed up milk/formula. If yours likes it cold, you're ahead of the game!
