I think the biggest thing is to keep going 100% until impact. If you really think about it you probably slow down and "flinch" right before you are about to hit the other player. This extra effort will pay off, and acually doesnt hurt as much as just "gliding" into the hit.

A few tips:
1. GO FOR THE LEGS- that is the best way to tackle. you may not force as many fumbles as those who do not, but you will tackle better than them. If the situation calls for it, go for the high hit, but for the most part stay low
2. GO IN HARD- You have to COMMIT to the tackle, you can't doubt your decision, you cannot hesitate, you have to just DO IT.
3. GO STRAIGHT IN- if you can help it, do not go in on an angle (other than 90 haha). You won't be in as good of a position to be able to make the tackle then if you go straight in. Sometimes you can't help this though: regardless of the situation, go in hard.
4. LEAD WITH YOUR HELMET- Hit hard with your helmet straight up, maybe a little bent. Regardless, your helmet should be pushing hard against their body. NEVER TACKLE WITH HELMET ALL THE WAY DOWN- that's a great way to suffer a concussion or break your neck.
5. PUSH THEM TO THE GROUND AS HARD AS YOU CAN AND FINISH THE TACKLE- Like i said earlier, commit to the tackle. Don't stop once you hit them or once you think that you have them beat.
6. LIFT AND GET STRONGER- that will help you tackle stronger and probably help with your confidence as well.
Don't worry about it kid, I'm 5'8, 175 pounds and I play football. I was among the conference leaders in tackles this year. It's all about the fundamentals.

hitting is something that it hard to improve.
tackling can be improved but hitting is something that is kinda harder to improve
to hit harder you have to run through the person. dont think about impact. but think about running straight ahead. and not stopping. your pads should be low. (more leverage more impact) keep your feet moving. stopping your feet is the worst thing you can do. keep your head up. lowering it. will make your lose vision of your target plus you can snap your neck. or get a stinger. and once you make impact keep driving. hard hits arent just the linebacker laying out the drag. but the after effect. picking up the guy and slammin him back down.
just keep moving

Same thing happened with me. You just got to think "Not Afraid." Also, you should practice hitting dummies to work on your form.

you have to be fearless it hurts way less to give the hit than take it. lower your shoulders keep your face up, you have to seewhat your tackling run through the hit roll your hips up on impact. wrap-up and most importan keep your feet moving dont stop running
