now i don't want specific examples or people dissing certain groups, i just want to know what you think the criteria for a "boy band" is

1.To play no instruments
2. to have "boyish" (as opposed to manly) looks
3. No one writes any music or lyrics
4. to dance around like fairies.
5. to think that despite the previous qualities, you still can be called a band.

to the first answerer; singing about girls and love doesn't make a band a boy band, many of Def Leppard's songs were about girls and love, but they are definately not a boy band.
And now to answer your question; to me a boy band is well not actually a band, as in they don't play any instruments. Instead they just sing and dance.

CRITERIA FOR A BOY BAND
1.Singing about love
2.Harmonizing
3.5 year old girls have to think that boys in boy bands are hot.
4.When no one likes you any more...you announce that you are gay(just to get publicity)
no offence to any one who likes boy bands. THE TRUTH HURTS. P.S.- just because boy is in a bands name does not mean they are a boy band ...Fall Out Boy is NOT a boy band

4 or 5 male singers under 22 years, no instruments, good looks, dancing ability, pop songs. Everything goes along fine until one of the guys decides he wants a solo career. If I missed anything, let me know.

Here are a few qualifiers:
no one plays an instrument
no one (in the band) writes any music or lyrics
dance choreography is most importnat thing
members fit into stereotypes (the cute one, the dangerous one, the baby, etc.)
their "music" makes me want to retch

i think people only call it boy bands when 99% of their fans are girls. people don't call screamo bands a boy band now do they? n'sync and backstreet boys were big time boy bands because girls were obsessing over them, but other bands who consist of guys and are loved by both genders aren't labeled as boy bands.

kay properly at the start.. i admire them. ive been to 3 of their stay shows. im going to a distinctive one on valentines day :) lol in any case.. yet they positioned on an exceptionally super instruct. i think of i understand what you mean tho..their kinda backstreetboyish..yet thats in simple terms yet another reason i admire them :)))) oh and its no longer their fault that their so customary now.. have faith me i desire they wernt, as a results of fact now its extra good to work out them...yet in any case lol. byee :D
