nick names can also come about through private jokes you all share, or maybe one of them did something stupid/funny/embarresing and you can use that as inspiration
one of my friends recently had an injury to his leg, so in a very un-pc way, (and this is especially bad considering i work in healthcare) i am currently calling him Crip
nicknames among friends can be anything at all, i once had a friend nicknamed 'ferret'- i can no longer recall why tho.....
it is better to have a meaning behind the nickname than just randomly chose something - it wont last

a good way to get a nick name is to use a word which describes the persons intrest or hobbie or something the really like.....
my nick for example, is celticlady, because I'm half Scotts-Irish...( and half Native-American)
