I am on a compettitive swim team. While swimming Freestyle and butterfly , I havent been able to move my arms fast, just this one slow steady pace. Also my arms will hurt when they are bieng liffted out of the water, and they also feel really heavy. Some days it is worse than others. It is worst the longer distance we swim, everything above a 50. The pain is up the side of my arm to my shoulder.

Is this normal? What can I do about it? What is happening? Should I talk to my coach?

Pain that radiates to the deltoid area is often indicative of rotator cuff pathology. If you have pain and weakness, you should followup with a physician right away and get in physical therapy as a partial tear may be present.

you should talk 2 your swim coach ,you may be working your arm to much and you may have torn your arm or it may just be really sore. The heaviness has 2 do with the gravity and don't forget to stretch before and after you swim.good luck!!

See a doctor. To get faster maybe you should practice with weights on your wrists.
