why is gas sold with 9/10ths of a cent added on? for example, right now gas is 2.35 and 9/10ths per gallon. why the 9/10ths?

It was like that when I was a child (in the 1950s!) They do it for the same reason things are put on sale for $99.99 and not $100.03. You won't notice the extra $0.9 cent very often and it will look like it is actually cheaper than it is.
