I am planning a trip to mackinaw island...I want to stay on the island.
But everything that i have found so far has been outragous!
DO any of you have any suggetions of a cheap place to stay on the actual island...
And what sort of activities did you do while you visited.?

We go to Mackinac Island every summer, sometimes in the fall too, and we always stay on the island. We usually stay at the Grand Hotel, but over the years, we've stayed at the Island House (which is quite reasonable), the Iroquois (very lovely) and Mission Pointe (which was hugely disappointing). As I mentioned, the Island House, when we stayed there, was very reasonable. We could get a nice room for $99 a night, including breakfast. If that's too much for you, you could look into some of the bed & breakfasts on the island. I don't know what those cost though. I've seen tiny hotels off the main road that can't be much I wouldn't think. Check out the websites of various hotels and see what deals they are offering.
As for what to do, the Grand has lots of activities for guests which we take full advantage of, but some of the other activities we do on the island are bike ride around the island, swim, hike (lots of great places to explore), shop, rent horses and occasionally play some golf.

There are no cheap hotels (ie.Grand) on the island. Plan your trip while sail boats are docked (Detroit to Mackinac race). and stay on boat.
