I'm glad that you're using aspen. Put enough in the cage so that you cannot see the bottom any longer and then add a few more handfuls for burrowing purposes. Hamsters like to hoard their food in corners and extra shavings are always appreciated.

In regards to the fluffy bedding, please don't use it. I really wish that stores would stop selling this product. It is fatal to the hamster in many ways. It often gets stuck in their pouches, causing them great discomfort and can become infected. If this bedding is swallowed, it causes blockage in the intestines. I've also heard that it can get wrapped around limbs.

The best nesting material to use is plain, white bathroom tissue. It dissolves in the stomach if swallowed and is nice and soft for your hamster. I breed dwarf hamsters myself and have found this to be the best.

Below is a site with more information on the fluffy bedding

The Super Pet 1 story is fine for your hamster and the bedding should be 1/3 to 1/2 of the depth of the pan, much more than that and the bedding will be outside of the cage. Almost any bedding will do EXCEPT cedar.. it is aeromatic and will cause breathing difficulties with your hamster.

Hi three inches is enough for a hamster, they like to burrow holes so three inches is fine. You mentioned that you use aspen? i was told by a small animal expert that aspen shavings and pine shavings are not recommended for small animals,it irritates their respiratory tract so I was told to use a type of litter called Carefresh its easier on the small animals lungs and it doesnt mat or clump.Glad I could lend you a hand Rubberstampr

i in my opinion propose the Carefresh bedding. threat-free comfortable, and it holds structure in case your Hamster is a touch structure worker. the 2d one, maximum folk are affirming is unsafe, is because it truly is cotton and which could get the feet tangled and choke them. in case you want, purchase fluff, a kind of issue that you only placed a touch in dozing aspects. completely threat-free, mine loves it, and it truly is no longer that bedding, regardless of the truth that very similar.
