I think it's an awful shame that people attack joke questions and joke answers. I'm sorry, but those people must be totally lame!
Some people, however, are not very good at reading between the lines and mistake a sarcastic question for a serious question. You have to be careful how you phrase things on the internet because tone (which some people don't do well even in real life) is missing from the text. So it helps to be blatantly obvious with a joke. For example, there was this hilarious guy that would ask joke questions all the time that looked serious until you clicked it and read the details. For example:
Q: Why doesn't my wife want us to have 7 children?
Details: Could the fact that I want to have them with 7 different women have something to do with it?
I'm sorry.... (LMAO)... *breathes* (LOL)... ok... Oh, God, it still makes me laugh so it hurts... Whew! Nobody has gotten me to laugh that hard in years...
Now the point is that some people really do ask some asinine questions that need some poking fun at. They say there's no such thing as a stupid question, but can you imagine if that was a *serious* question??? For the brilliance of some of the questions I see out there, I suppose it IS possible. I suppose the really dumb person they copied might have earned the right to complain... but then I'd really like to read the rest of their questions so I can laugh more directly at them!!! LOL.
Seriously, though, some people take this site too seriously!

Why do you care?
I try and give reasonable answers to most questions, but, most people take things too seriously.
I don't care much if I get thumbs down. I notice it, sure. I notice the hate mail more. I even respond to about ten percent of it.
We all have opinions. Sharing them we learn about each other. The thumbs down gives us a chance to react to an opinion with an opinion.
Do you expect everyone to think your opinions are Awesome?
I get about 30% best answers, around the same percentage as my wife. I am very opinionated and I can generally back up those opinions with logic and facts. I also get a lot of hate mail because some people do not like my opinions, probably about the same percentage of people hate my answers as like them.
That is life. We share opinions, we learn and people can respond to what we share.

I don't know, but sometimes when I ask a serious question it's kind of nice to see a funny answer on there once in awhile. It lightens the mood.

Probably because they consider "joke" answers point-gaming.
Plus, most askers are looking for *serious* answers. (Of course, some questions are jokes themselves, but I think that's actually against the TOS...)
