I have no experience with breast pumps and want something that is comfortable and close to natural suckling.

I will not be using it regularly so it doesn't matter if it's manual or electric.

Can you recommend a brand or model?

Thanks for your help.

I know everyone says to get an electric, but I hated the electric ones. I had to rent the hospital grade Medela in the beginning of nursing b/c I had issues with my supply. I felt like a cow. And for me, I was nursing most of the time, and only needed to pump occasionally. I didn't want to spend the several hundred dollars on the electric ones. If I had needed to pump daily or even a couple times a week, I probably would have gotten the electric ones, but since I only needed it sometimesI decided to start out with a Medela hand pump. I figured if it was that bad, I'd get the electric. I loved it. I liked it better than the electric ones. I liked that I didn't have to be next to a plug when I wanted to pump, which made it good for traveling, it was easier to clean, easier to set up, and was very price friendly. It's called the Medela harmony: here it is on BabiesRUs:

I started out with an Avent manual hand pump, but when my milk supply started to drop off I needed to pump more often. I went ahead and got a Medela pump in style double electric pump- wow what a life saver! It was expensive but so worth the time and effort it would have taken to use a manual one. I got mine from www.bestbuybaby.com. I found they had the best price. It helped me keep up my milk supple so I could keep on nursing.

I even have had super luck with the Medela Pump in style progressed. I even have been working finished-time provided that my daughter replaced into 2 mos. previous, and, almost 9 mos. later, I nonetheless get sufficient milk out of the pump on the same time as i'm far off from her to fulfill her needs (2-3 bottles/day). i understand this pump isn't inexpensive, yet once you may get it on a solid sale, it could probable be around $250 or $260. it variety of sounds like plenty to pay, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's nonetheless extra inexpensive than renting, and in case you ultimately finally end up having to purchase formulation b/c your pump isn't keeping your milk furnish up, the extra cost for a extra effective pump will finally end up being extra inexpensive than determining to purchase even some cans of formulation. that's recommended to attempt looking a mom's Milk organic tea with fenugreek and blessed thistle. women have used those herbs for a protracted time to boost milk furnish (I nonetheless drink a cup of it on a daily basis).

Pump-in-style by medela. Costs 250-300 dollars but worth every penny. Mine has lasted through 3 kids and 6 years!

Definatley go with an electric or battery operated Medela, I bought three different brands before I gave in and spent the money for a Medela because they are expensive, but not one of the other three I bought worked so I may as well have thrown my money in the garbage.

The Medela pumps are the best out there and are recommended by most hospitals and lactation consultants. They make single pumps that run on batteries and aren't too expensive.

I have used the Advent Isis breast pump and the medela one I rented from the hospital....I wouldn't go to the trouble of renting one if you are not going to use it frequently, I would get the Advent one.. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and small enough to take in a diaper bag. Hope this helps!
