I had this problem. Basically u can move the spawn but every year frogs will still return to your pond to mate!

We were over-run with them, so u can imagine the nightmare when we mowed the grass! In the end we filled in the pond & moved!

I move them between ponds regularly. You can always take some to a local natural spot where other frogs live.

Just beware of major temperature shocks and starving the frog spawn of oxygen or water. Make the move as quick as possible, and acclimatise the moved spawn to the new water, eg keep in a plastic bag for 15-30 minutes to allow the temp to adjust and equalise.

The frogs return to their own birthplace to spawn from about 3 years old, onwards. Taking them somewhere else should mean that the next generation will return there, rather than to the pond that they were moved from.

Good luck! Rob

You should NOT move frog spawn from one pond to another. If the spawn has any disease, you will be spreading the problem. If the other pond is suitable, the frogs will use it anyway.

I would guess that it is if the other pond is similar. Why don't you ask Alan Titmarsh?

to adjust them to the water get yourself a clear bag and place them into it with water, put the bag with water where you would like their new home to be, hold the bag upright for about 15 minutes, this will allow them to adjust to the temperatue of the water, before they adjust to the different surrondings and different food cultures ect... this will ensure a greater survival rate - hope this helps.
