Well, if you're too young to remember the 80s, preppy style was very popular back then. Pastel colors, pull-over sweaters worn wrapped and tied at the neck, penny-loafer shoes, khaki pants.... all these are trademark preppy styles. Of course, the look has been updated every time it comes back into fashion, and you can do your own take on preppy style. Even Catholic school-girl style pleated plaid skirts were in once.

Look at any Ralph Lauren ad, or Tommy Hilfiger, and that's preppy dressing. Also the Gap ads. Preppy is conservative dressing with flair. Designer emblems a big feature. Tweed jacket with jeans, white shirt not tucked in, scarf around the neck , beret cap and leather loafers with or without socks. Stripes are a big fashion choice, striped sweaters and shirts. Cable knit v-necks, with designer emblem and a crisp shirt, paired with cord trousers or skirts, but arranged with a type of hip flair. They want to look cool but at the same time, conservative with style!

It is simple!! lol Just to wear what is in style basicly. Like what everyone who is popular is wearing. Mininskirts, with leggins and big beaded necklaces with things like beaters, or spaggetti straps or beaters with spaggetti straps and flipflops, also long dangly earings. Having hair like the bangs pulled back straight with a big clip. That kind of stuff. And sometimes stuff from popular stores like areopostale, ambercrombie, and american eagle that you wear is considered dressing preppy. Cuz those stores are popular. Dressing preppy is to always wear something expensive or flashy looking. and i mean ALWAYS. normally, preppy applies to guys or girls who dress to impress, but not always. the term is more common amongst teens than any other age group.

Preppy is usually the style of certain clothing stores like Aeropostale, AE, Abercrobie and Fitch, Hollister and the like. Right now it's big glasses, bangs(in you hair), belts, and a vintage sort of retro-thrifty look.

khaki pants, polo shirts, cable knit sweaters, clean tennis shoes or loafer style shoes. just very clean cut, bright colors, and everything should be crisp (like not wrinkly)

First off, abercrombie, hollister, & ae are NOT preppy. When would you ever see someone preppy wearing holes in their jeans.
Preppy is khakis, polos, madras, grosgrain ribbon, etc.
