once you've learned your scales and chord progressions and have a good understanding of what notes can be played together you can start coming up with your own ryhtms and songs
if you have a good feeling about it then you can play it in front of other people and get a good response, just remeber when it comes to playing guitar you are your own worst critic so try it out for some friends or break it out at a party and see what kind of reaction you get
