People love to judge others and nowhere more than when it makes them feel better about their own loser lives. Some of those dresses do suck but most of them are gorgeous and the bottom line is that folks who could never afford (let alone fit into) what those people are wearing like to sooth their feelings of inferiority by ridiculing what is out of their league.

On the other hand, if you go making a spectacle of yourself it's only to be expected that you will be exposed to the carping criticisms of the mediocre, so it's all just part of the big circus of celebrité in America.

Most of the gowns are not very pretty. When actresses have the money and the means to wear clothing that is gorgeous and pick things lacking balance and or details, then they have failed at their jobs. Maybe incisive comments are unnecessary, but there is nothing wrong with finding fault or worth in a person's fashion choice.

It's their opinion. And, yes their job is to give their opinions on what they think looks good and doesn't...so, yes they do get payed. If you don't like what the commentators have to say then why do you choose to watch/listen to them?
