A person that I know, has tried everything that he can think of to help him with his depression. He has done the psychotherapy, anti-depressants and has even gone to the extent of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)...but nothing has worked. He's basically tired of trying...and the doctors have basically told him that theres nothing else that they can do for him. Does anyone else have any ides that may help? Even if it means something from another country? Help please...he's basically at the end of his rope...he's tried a couple of times to commit suicide...just because he's so fed up with it. Any serious suggestions would be great!

For the serverity of his case, I really don't think that music will help..

He has seen soo many doctors, he has been on sooo many different meds and he has also tried many different clinical studies and nothing has worked.

Religion is a huge thing for him...and hes tried everything when it comes to that...

What about religion?

Priests can offer different views than psychologists. Additionally, some Priests are educated in medicine, and other modern medical professions. You could contact your local Roman Catholic Church and see if they have a phone number to an assistance for depression.

I've also know a few ppl who were suicidal and they were prescribed to volunteer at an AIDS house or Hospice shelter so they could face mortality from the eyes of others.

The link I'm giving you is more in finding value in "Intangible" values like love, happiness, and person. The author is great at dealing with life and death situations like abortion, and euthanasia (most similar to suicide) and sheds important light on how to find value in a materialistic world.

Sounds like the person has tried the usual avenues. Maybe a different therapist - not every therapist meshes with every patient. And there are also lots of different meds out there, and not every one works the same for everyone.

Good luck to your friend. Things can get better, but he needs to find the right combination of therapy and meds to help his situation.

I have depression and have tried to commit suicide several times. When i was always depressed i would listen to music. I know it is cold, but spending time outside in the sunlight is also essential because the sun has specific effects on certain hormones that cause us to be happy. if he or you need to talk to someone who has depression you can add me to your yahoo buddy list. pricklewv!

I agree, listen to music. Depression is hard to deal with, for people of every and any age. Maybe he is dwelling on the past too much...Move on.
