It is believed due to the strong El Nino weather pattern that gripped the United States for much of 2006 and into early 2007

El Niño interfered with the formation of hurricanes that might otherwise have happened. The current El Niño is fading and shiting to an El Niña, so it's possible we may have a more active season this year.

because global warming is a crock of ****.

is the earth getting warmer? yea, maybe
will it cause incredible natural disasters that will eventually cause the end of the world? no

the earth has been getting warmer, and colder, for millions and millions of years now. we must be pretty self absorbed to think that us humans can cause the demise of something so durable. the earth will be here long after we are. you want something to worry about causing the end of the human race? how about the fact that the rest of the world hates us, causing hundreds of nuclear missiles to be pointed at us right now, and just waiting for someone to press the button

El Nino was one of the causes and the second was because of too much wind shear tearing up circulation

It was an El Nino year. 2007 is a La Nina year, and the conventional wisdom is there should be more (and more powerful) hurricanes.

We shall see.
