The Progressive Party were people who were trying to change The system. Some people wanted change such as civil rights , and others wanted segregation. Both could be seen as progressive, but both were totally opposite in direction. This could be seen as progressive paradox. But the progressives were able to expose political corruption, hinder monopolies, expose the meat packing industry( read the jungle by Sinclair Lewis), the poverty in the inner cities.but they did get several amendment to the constitution (17th direct election of senators, 18th prohibition, 19th women's right to vote) which did change America which is the essence of progressive.
