Sounds like your video is Defaulted in basic VGA mode, Meaning your video card's drivers are NOT Installed.

*IF* you have the driver disc for your video card, Install the drivers.

*IF* you don't have the disc, go to the video card's manufacturer's website and download the lastest drivers for your specific card.

Did you try going to the Control Panel/Display and seeing if you can change your resolution from there? You have to also make sure that your card is running properly. It should tell you at the same place - if you click on the 'driver' link or tab.

Try right-clicking (left-clicking if you're lefty) and selecting properties. Then go to the settings tab. In there you can change screen resolution.

Assuming that doesnt work, try the buttons on the moniter itself.

on your desk top- the opening screen of your PC where you can see all your icons-- right click on your mouse and go to "Properties"

It will bring up a multi tab gray box, where you can modify the attributes of your PC, including screen resolution,.
