There are adapters that assist you flow from an LPT port on a pc to a USB on a printer. verify on-line or your interior sight pc save. once you've a router at living house for sharing your internet connection between different computers, you are able to set the printer up as a community printer than you does no longer could plug it right now into the former computer in any respect.

You may already have installed software first, but most printers require software install first, before connecting printer.
I have a HP usb printer. I installed the software first, during sofware setup, I was told to plug in the usb, then power up my printer, after restart, printer works fine. Good luck.

Are you using a CD to install that printer. It should assign the USB automatically to it. You shouldn't have to assign anything. Typically, you install the program and there will be a point where it asks you to plug in your printer.
It sounds like you may be using older software.... try going to your printer site and seeing if there isn't software for your USB.

Go to your printer's manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
BTW, SOME Printer Drivers REQUIRE that your Installthe drivers either BEFORE you plug the printer in or That you HAVE to have the printer OFF while installing the Driver.
Check the Install instructions carefully.

install the printer's software w/o attaching the printer's USB cable first, upon completing the installation try to restart your pc,
when everything is ready, finally attached the USB cable to the USB port, then wait for a couple of minutes, the PC should detect the USB cable.

You might need to install the driver first...then it will detect the printer on the USB line and go from there.
