you might be thinking of "Funny Girl" which was first a broadway musical and then a film.

If you mean the 1957 movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, no, it was not a Broadway play. It received an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay for the screen, written by Leonard Gershe (and director Stanley Donen.)

Incidentally, Gershe also wrote the screenplays of movies like "40 Karats" and "Butterflies Are Free".
