80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Ah-hh... It can be found in this:

I got your back. You've got mine. You trust me and I trust you.

This is a purpose of life.

Of course, it could be to catch a bullet intended for a president, teacher, or rapist.

What do you want to hear, Slop compelling you to a "higher plane of existence?" How do you know that your living will make a difference to this world? Sit on a couch, get fatter than fat, walk across a street and fall down with a heart attack, just when the ambulance needs to get a baby to the hospital.

We, and I include you in this "we", don't know your position in the future or what part you play. But this isn't a movie you are living in, nor are you the hero.

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE ONLY WHEN YOU TOUCH ANOTHER LIFE. If your purpose is good, you're remembered as good. Screw-up your chance, and you get to try again until you get it right. In the meantime, you get to 'suffer the slings and arrows' of mediocrity.

Good question, not many people with think about this question and many people do not know the answer.

You may search this answer from books of great philosophers. I agree that the purpose of life may be different from individuals. Like the poor people in Africa, for them the purpose of life is simply for surviving. Whereas you and myself, the purpose of life reach higher levels. Like the needs theory from Maslow.

My personal answer of this question would be self-awareness. The purpose of my life is knowing myself. You never know your full potentials until you can handle different issues in life. Life is an adventure, not a destination. So please enjoy your life as you only life once. Cheers!

There is no one answer for purpose of life. Each person has their own unique purpose. So, the purpose of your life could be much different than the purpose of my life.

Everyone's exact purpose is going to be a little different. But, for everyone, the purpose is to love God with all your heart and to do HIS will for your life. God's will is this:

"God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin." 1 Thessalonians 4:3

"Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. " 1 Thessalonians 5: 18

"For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. " Hebrews 10:10

Wow, great philosophical question. I don't think there could be a single best answer to this one, but for each one of us we define our purpose by living it. My idea of a fulfilling life is one in which we live what we believe.

To ask 'What is the purpose of life?'

It's a cruel game. Devised by cats, incidentally.

There is none. "Purpose" is a made-up idea in the minds of humans. Stay alive and propagate the species, the goal of all animals, is ours as well.
