Hi. I want to buy a cheap good notebook PC. Can you give me some ideas of which is a good notebook PC and where I can buy a cheaper one? I am a poor student now, so I really need your advice! Thank you!

Look for notebooks that have the AMD processor in them. They are much cheaper than the ones with the Intel processors in them, and outperform them. Secondly, look at Compaq and HP's notebooks. They usually have specials every couple of months and you can get a great notebook for under $400.

What's 'cheap'? I've had very good luck buying used laptops off of e-bay. Never had a problem. Last one was a Pentium chip 2.4, 512 gigs of ram, Windows Professional, 60 gig hd - internal wireless - for around $450. Works beautifully.

Don't chinz on the processor by getting an 'efficiency' chip. Stay with the better chips. The trick with e-bay, when you buy a large priced item is to 'talk' to the buyer through e-bay and have them give you their phone number so you can have a discussion about their computer. Why their selling, what they do for a living, etc.

You can learn a lot from a phone conversation. Your odds of getting something better from a Master's Degree STudent that just got an awesome job and just was given a brand new laptop is better than someone getting rid of a computer that doesn't know what he's doing.
