My 13yo almsot-step-daughter left a note on my computer (to someone else, not me) stating that she knows what a 'kirby' is.

And no, I don't feel like I'm snooping since she left it on MY computer. And I feel we should know what it is she's so proud of knowing....

It came immediately after mention of her new boyfriend- she told his name then said 'and yes I no what a kirby is".

I'm pretty sure it's nothing she has any business knowing.

She is NOT talking about the cute little video game character.
And regardless whether you think I'm snooping, it's none of your business. Answer the question or don't, whatever.

There are several meanings for the word 'kirby', which are listed at the site below. The most popular definition is 'someone who lies about their past in order to seem more interesting', but it can also refer to a woman's clitoris, or, in Britain, it could refer to a promiscuous person, stereotypically blond(e), who enjoys alcohol.

In my experience, the term 'kirby' has been used to describe people who annoy others in order to maintain a certain standard, but I think it's site-specific, so I suppose it's unlikely that you're daughter is referring to those kirbies.

You would know your almost-step-daughter better than I would, but I'll suggest that she and her friend (?) might simply have been teasing each other, just based on the conversations that I often have with my friends^^;.

Don't worry, it's just a videogame character. :)

That's the only meaning I'm aware of, but I don't believe there are any others.

Also, a search on www.urbandictionary.com (a website where users define urban slang) yields this meaning:

n. A person who claims to have had an interesting past yet showcases absolutely zero evidence to confirm it. A kirby will often times make up semi ineteresting stories about thier past to cover up the fact that thier lives are less interesting than Antiques Roadshow.

EXAMPLE:

Mike: Did you hear Matts story about when he had to be hospitalized after he took twenty shots of hard liquor in ten minutes?

Nick: Yeah, there is no way that really happened, the kid is a major kirby.

And yes, as the user above stated, it is also a vaccuum cleaner company, though I doubt this has anything to do with what your daughter was talking about. Don't jump to conclusions. :)

Yes, the best resource is www.urbandictionary.com.

Looking further down on the entry, it may also have more vulgar meaning. The best reference, however, would be your "almost step daughter".
