There is no violence here in Mazatlan right now. The above posters "boyfriend" must live in Culiacan where the cartels are located. They are always having problems up there, although unless you are looking to get involved with the cartels you will be fine. It's not like they are out driving around and looking for gringos to shoot! Spring break here is very good, lots of organized parties specifically for spring breakers; http://paradiseparties.com/mazatlan.asp,

I have never been but almost chose that as a spring break destination for my boyfriend and I last year. We went to Puerto Vallarta,Mexico instead which was amazing. The people in our hotel made it so much more enjoyable and on top of that it was all inclusive(alcohol too). But everyone was sooo friendly and the weather was perfect, cobble stone streets and a beach less than 100 ft away. But...it wasn't filled with crazy spring breakers. If you are looking for a more party/girls gone wild atmosphere then I suggest Cabo San Lucas. I hear more spring breakers go there. Mazatlan is gorgeous from what I hear but more remote too I believe and I don't think it will be quite as much night life as Cabo. But if it is just warm weather, gorgeous beaches and good beer you are looking for then Mazatlan would be perfect. In Puerto Vallarta though we also got to go on a zip line, bellaying excursion and a dune buggy excursion! We also rented jet skis! All of that was worth the trip alone. Good luck with your decision.

It's a beautiful place, but I guess if the only purpose of going on spring break is to get drunk and party all day and night and have sex with whoever is up for it, then I guess one destination is as good as another. You should contact the tourism department there to get information. Most spring breakers prefer Cancun, but I guess Mazatlan would be less expensive.

yup it's great for that....unfortunately, right now they are having some major drug cartel problems in sinaloa (state that mazatlan is in.) this is pretty normal all the time...but right now it's just really tough. my boyfriend lives in sinaloa, and he and all of his friends have left for other places during this time. we were going to go to mazatlan, and have decided to cancel the trip because of danger. if you can afford to fly, and then have a luxury hotel pick you up right from the airport, and you plan to stay on the property most all of the time...well, i guess it would be ok, there are plenty of people doing that i'm sure.
so...yeah, mazatlan is great...and chances are you'll be ok.....but puerto vallarta is also REALLY great...i have heard (and that's where we'll be going instead), and Cabo San Lucas also....so why take the risk when you can go to some other great beaches? and actually go out on the town and not be in danger.
