My thoughts go out to your and your family. However, in the society that we live in is "Money Driven" and has no price tag on the value of a human being. It is indeed very sad that a society can allow an animal to be put to sleep without a blink of an eye, to remove suffering, but not a human that is suffering. Bottem line, people can continue to pay bills for other humans so the Government keeps bleeding the pocket book of the sick, animals can't continue to pay bills for other animals.

What is wrong is that everyone has gone lawsuit happy. with an animal there is rarely a lawsuit over it being put to sleep or not (murder vs. euthanaisia vs. forcing something to be kept alive that would prefer not to be). With humans however, it's a lot more complicated. Then there's always money involvied (i.e; life insurance, inheritance, etc) so when somebody says to "pull the plug" or refuse a feeding tube, then there sometimes becomes suspicion if there is really an ethical or finacial motive for the person making the decision. I agree with you, I recently lost my grandpa in a similar fashion (a forced feeding tube for 4 months, then they took it out and tried to force feed him and he aspirated, it get worse and worse so I will stop here) It's complete b.s. but unfortunately theres not a lot at this point that we can do about it.

We can only be thankful that the Anna Nicole person died outright, instead of just being brain-dead, as she had pretty much always been. We might have seen acts of congress passed on her behalf.
Quite seriously, when a person has an ailment from which they cannot recover, and cannot decide on their own, it ought to be automatic that they be "put to sleep". Monster that I am, I believe the same thing about infants kept "alive" at enormous expense, though they will never be capable of becoming actual people.

Well if you can accept and carry the responsibility of ending her life, then why not campaign for the humane ending of a seemingly worthless life?. Or if that is too much then why not become a researcher into the causes and cures of Alzheimers.
It would be more productive than simply being sand and upset.

I think I basically agree with you. I wouldn't want it to be common practise- get Alzeimers or fall into a coma and bam they kill you. But I wish it was legal to be able to say 'if I've been in a coma for this long, I want you to...' 'if I've lost the ability to do this I want you to...' so we can have a say in what happens to us after we aren't able to speak for ourselves. It would also be much easier for families if they had a clear idea of what we would have wanted them to do.
To the people who are saying that you shouldn't kill someone who has Alzeimers, well some people wouldn't want to live like that. If they were to sign a legal document saying that if they developed Alzeimers then the family have their permission then they should be able to have their decision honoured. It is their life after all.

Why? According to right wing, Fundamentalist Christians, animals have no soul. Humans have a soul, so assisted suicide is bad in their eyes. Maybe if the person seeking assisted suicide was Jewish or Muslim, it might alright.
Check out the link I put. It's scary to think that someone actually thinks like that. Why do religious people have so much hate?

I'm with you sistah!
In all the discussions of preserving life, somehow the QUALITY of life has lost importance.
These days, it is important to have your paperwork in order, or else you end up spending $10K a month to sit in a chair drooling while machines force air in and out of your lungs. No thanks!

that's a bit selfish of you. it would be different if she were in a pvs (coma) but whether someone doesn't know who they are doesn't mean she isn't conscious. people with amnesia don't know who they are, nobody's going to kill /them/. my grandpa had alzheimers, too, only i before i was born.
