So many, where do I begin:
The entire Hitchhiker's Guide series (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life the Universe and Everything, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, Mostly Harmless), Animal Farm, Inherit the Wind, anything and everything by H. G. Wells, Beowulf, Witness, Farenheit 451

It seems that I mention this in every single post I make, but...
My favorite is Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings". They are amazing books with a vivid, original, complex story, a mythic/historical air to them... and, of course, who could forget Tolkien's brilliant characters (Sam and Eowyn are my two favorites) or all the wonderful places in Middle-earth? The movies are okay, but the books are FAR superior.

Hiya! Talk about a matter of perspective! I like plenty of books-and have favs in different genres-but I like Terry Pratchett's take on the Grim Reaper taking an apprentice- Mort - in sci-fi (it's not really sci fi as it takes the proverbial p*ss out of that type of book!) I also love Conrad's Heart of Darkness-the book that Apocalypse Now is based on! Ah there's too many to mention-but check these out and you won't be doing too badly!
Hope this helps!

My favorite book is " The Narrows" by Kenneth Brown
I was told when it first came out in 1968 that I was a caracter
in it. I wasn't . Someone who had read a preview years before
had confused me with another person ( Tom Murry)

I used to read all the time, but now-a-days I don't ever have time.I remember when I was about 13 I read "The Amityville Horror" It scared me to death.I remember one night I was reading, laying on the couch, it was late at night and I got to the part about the red eyes looking in the window.I got so scared. It's really a good scary book if you have never read it.I love scary stories and movies.Usually a book is better than a movie.............

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez,
But, Lovely Bones as mentioned by another is quite good until the ending and East of Eden is arguably one of the greatest written.
Marquez won the nobel prize for literature for 100 Years. One of the most deserved ever!

I would say the Harry potters are great but Eragon&Eldest are super too, the His Dark Materials are great Inkheart and Inkspell are awesome and so are the Artemis Fowls, but my favorite are the Bartimaeus Trilogy
P.S. Anna of Byzantium is good and so is Daughter of Venice
I would never recommend the giver or animal farm, although animal farm is good if your looking for symbolism. The Outsiders is good and so is Night
