Personally I like both the country and the people. I think that the only thing that spoils it both for Filipinos and foreigners is the pollution and corruption.
The majority of Filipinas' have a beauty that would be envied by many.
Considering the state of the country the majority of Filipinos' still haven't lost their sense of humour or their sense of fun.
I do like their close family ties......something that is lacking today in a lot of Western society's.

"Philippin Traveler" I know exactly what you mean.
"Joe B" and "Infantry Skunk" you are both so wrong.

I know several Filipinos and am studying the Philippines. In general, some characteristics I think of are: polite, friendly, hospitable, hardworking, respectful, and usually fun to hang out with. Some of my Filipino friends are somewhat shy and soft-spoken but some are more outgoing. Many Filipinos are very intelligent, value education, and work as nurses or doctors. (One Filipino guy I knew in high school was really good at math and could do the Rubik's cube in 30 seconds.)
I like Filipinos in general, but their history seems somewhat tragic to me because of how they were ruled by Spain and Catholic clergy for 300 years and then just when they were fighting for independence from Spain they were conquered by the U.S. after the Spanish-American War. They still don't seem to have forged a concrete national identity because of this... they've only had a chance to try to do so for the last 60 years.

I am a Filipino so I'm little bit biased probably. But in general, Filipinos are labeled as hospitable people. Westerners think Filipinas are beautiful because of the tan skin color and the very black hair. In contrast, a lot of Filipinos likes white people, you can see in Philippine market how popular whitening cream of soaps are. All I can say is Filipinos, like some Americans (who go to tanning salons), wants to have the color they don't have.
But I'm proud to be Filipino and living here in the states for almost 2 yrs now, I learned to appreciate more my color and race and become proud of my culture.
I also try to support my family in the Philippines and send money there. Foreigners may not understand why we do that because its not part of the western culture. Even my parents doesn't ask for support, I do that as "utang na loob". What's this term? You can ask...

I've never been to the Philippines so I can't offer my opinion in that regard. As for what I think of Filipinos, I don't judge people based on their race, skin color, religious beliefs or nationality. I believe in accepting each and every individual as unique. I don't stereotype.

I married one. The ladies are very pretty. They are hard working. Her relatives in the Philippines ask for money a lot. I am the rich relative, the money guy now. I have helped them many times. I now own a beach lot and a rice farm. One of the relatives called me cheap even after I sent money to help her. She will not get any more help. Their English is generally not very good. They do not seem to worry much. Have you tried out friendster.com. The country is very pretty. I was surprised that there were so few flying insects.
