I am taking an Anatomy and Physiology course at a community college in the SF Bay Area. We have special ties to UCSF and I have seen human prosections and a whole cadaver. Both the prosections and cadavers have been dissected.

That's unlikely. At least not by yourself. A cadaver is about $6,000.00 believe it or not, due to the preparation and of course the overcharging. Medical students usually get one, but if you're just taking a human anatomy course most likely you'll tour a cadaver lab, and possibly do some group work with one, but I doubt you get one for yourself. If you do there will be a huge fee involved.

Definitely NOT in undergrad, you'll most likely have to dissect an eyeball or a cat. Maybe during your doctoral program you would dissect a cadaver.

I think it depends on what field of study you are going into and what year you're in. Medical doctors, of course, have to study cadavers and so do physical and occupational therapy students. It's really not bad once you get over the formaldehyde smell and that initial cut. In our group of five, we drew straws has to who took the first cut with the scalpel. A bag is generally kept over the head of the cadaver.

No, only when you get to med school. Cadavers are expensive to acquire and store. Plus the emotional issues, they are not going to want to deal with a bunch of crying 19-year-olds.

you don't have to do it in all schools. But if you really want to be a doctor, I advise that you go to a school where you do.
