First, you have to find out the procedure the Talent Agencies use to find new talent. Do they go to the theatre? Is it by referral from current clients?

Do your homework and find out how the agents meet with prospective new actors.

Make sure you have a very strong resume with a lot of theatre in lead roles!

First, be clear whether you want an acting (theatrical) agent or a talent (film and TV) agent.

Contact the appropriate agency and ask if they are accepting submissions. If they are, provide a headshot and resume; they may also want a "reel" (CD or DVD of anything you've done, or voiceovers).

They do not cost any money; if they ask you for money, they are not legitimate. An agent makes their money by taking a percentage of your earnings.
