I am an intermediate player and would like to know some songs that i could play even without an electric guitar in the background (which are basically solos)

Anything by Rage Against The Machine (almost all of their songs are based off of bass riffs) or Unsung by Helmet (another bass gem). When it comes to full on solos though that is a hard one as most songs are guitar based solo. Good luck and happy playing!

Try Jaco Pastorius' tune Teen Town. It can be heard on Heavy Weather by the Weather Report; although, my favourite version of it is on their live album entitled, "8:30". He was the first real king of the electric bass guitar. You can also hear a version of his tune Slang which he did with multiple delay taps and distortion. You might find the sound a little dated, but listen to what he is saying with his instrument. After that, check out Victor Wooten, or Avishai Cohen, or Eddie Gomez, or, well, you get the idea. There are some amazing players out there. You'll find them. You want to be a great player? Know what came before you. Then, you can go on from where they left off instead of reinventing the wheel.

Check out Red hot chili peppers-all stuff, but a lot of old. They have a lot of intros that are JUST bass, and some solos here and there. Like Torture me, Don't forget me, umm sorry can't think of any right now. Also, phish-check out the intro to character zero, and queen's another onebites the dust
