www.famouspoetsandpoems.com would be my recommendation (I kid you not!). They have an extensive library of poets and I'm sure that you could find just what you need.

Here's one of my favorites, by Ogden Nash:

Bartelby is probably the best and most authorative literature reference site. There is a good selection of poetry there. Link is below. You might have better luck with this if you first decide what type of poetry eg. American or British, 19th century or contemporary etc.

By the way, you would have a much easier time with this assigment if you went to a public library and just looked at the books in the poetry section (800s). Some things are just much easier offline and I think you will find that in this case. (and...there are librarians there who will help you!)

U of Michigan's American Verse Project: http://www.hti.umich.edu/a/amverse/

Eserver's Poetry Section: http://poetry.eserver.org/

U of Toronto's Representative Poetry Site;

but the best remains the Academy of American Poets' Page at http://www.poets.org

For terrible poetry, go to McGonagall Online at http://www.mcgonagall-online.org.uk/
